5 Benefits of Wearing Silk

Look and feel rejuvenated, and learn of the natural health benefits of wearing silk. Consciously caring for both your body and our planet.

Silk is a natural fabric spun by silk worms. It’s a light, breathable fabric and, due to its nature, a natural temperature regulator. Silk retains body heat in cold weather and dispels excess heat in warm weather. This aids your body to find a comfortable, natural body temperature all year round.
Silk is the strongest of all the natural fibers in the world. Silk contains natural proteins and essential amino acids. It also contains natural cellular albumen which speeds up the metabolism of skin cells, providing a light, durable material that allows your skin to breathe.
As a hypoallergenic, silk doesn’t attract dust mites or other nasty devourers like silver fish. Silk is also a natural fungal repellant (as it absorbs unwanted moistures) and as a result doesn’t conduct static electricity, so wearing and sleeping in silk helps reduce hair breakage.
Unlike synthetic fabrics, silk doesn’t draw moisture away from your skin and hair but instead encourages natural moisture balance. Silk’s smooth texture proves to be beneficial for those with sensitive skin conditions such as Eczema, and prevents the build up of dirts and other microscopic foreign bodies that may trigger skin allergies.
Signs of degradation appear in silk after four years. While that is significantly quicker than polyester (96 years quicker) the silk biodegrading process can be sped up (for example, like exposure to some soils) and all of the material can go in just 12 to 24 months. Silk garments also make for the ultimate recyclable piece. When the time comes to recycle your silk, try cutting it into pillow cases, eye masks, gifting it to a friend or wearing it as nightgown. The possibilities are endless.
