City Guide 01: New York City

City Guide 01: New York City

While many explore New York City during fashion week, our guide aims to elevate the experience the Silk Laundry way.

Cafe: Cafe Leon Dore

This past winter, the New York City clothing and lifestyle brand Aime Leon Dore opened a cafe alongside their flagship store in SoHo. Paying homage to the design of traditional Greek cafes, the space is a clean vintage white, with colourful tiles lining the floor and a street-facing window for take away. Cafe Leon Dore offers coffee, teas and fresh pastries alongside a small collection of magazines curated by the brands’ founder, Teddy Santis. After travelling overnight, we arrived at  our first destination and weren't disappointed by the oat milk cortado and abundance of European-style outdoor seating.

 Apothecary: Daphne

Also in SoHo, Daphne is a results-driven skincare studio, offering the newest treatments and products in European skincare. Daphne is our regular destination to pick up Biologique Recherche P50, the exfoliating toner with a cult following. Book a Triple Lift Facial for total rejuvenation or stop in on a whim for a product recommendation from the charming and extremely knowledgeable staff.

Shopping: Newtop Jewelry

Newtop Jewelry’s owner, Jane Shuai, has earned her business international recognition through a fast-growing Instagram following. The Chinatown jeweler is known best for custom gold jewelry of all kinds and the skill of knowing exactly what a customer is looking for before they do. Signet rings, anklets, hoops and any kind of pendant imaginable, this is what keeps us coming back.

 Vegan: Caravan of Dreams

Founded by Angel Moreno, this East Village institution has been offering organic vegan food, smoothies and elixirs for the past twenty-eight years. Ahead of its time, Moreno offers creative dishes that are mindfully put together in an environment with live music and friendly staff. We’ll be dreaming about the smoothie with turmeric, holy basil and galangal herbs until our next visit.

Concept: Sincerely, Tommy

Located in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn -- and well worth the trip -- is the concept store Sincerely, Tommy. Female owned and impeccably curated, this small business offers contemporary and tailored pieces from a selection of international brands. The strength in S.T. lies in its integration of an amazing cafe and workspace into its larger, carefully designed retail space. At any time of day, S.T. is filled with patrons working on laptops, shopping the newest arrivals or chatting over the cafe’s signature lavender oat lattes.

Fine Dining: Meadowsweet

This Brooklyn restaurant possesses more than a mediterranean influence and Michelin star, they offer delicious, vegetable-forward dishes in a warm and energetic environment. The care put into plates at Meadowsweet is palpable - and traceable. Between their mezzanine herb garden and farm in upstate New York, the ingredients you’re tasting are grown responsibly and organically. Our meal at Meadowsweet marked the occasion of Fashion and Week.
